In this post is a document released by Council under GIPA that is worth a read. My interpretation of the two letters included is that Council says risk was not the reason the trees were removed. Which surprises me not at all. I’m just surprised to see it in writing.

School holidays is a great time for a tree tour of Sydney, and where better to start than the eastern suburbs? I saw canopies forming cathedral arches of trees all over the place when I went down there last week.

How alarmed, though, was I to see that Australia’s richest people are apparently risking their lives on a daily basis, walking, sitting and driving under dangerous fig trees.

I am ashamed to say that once again my Council has treated an eminent expert shabbily.

As I said at the Fig Forum, there’s nothing to be gained and quite a bit to lose for arboricultural and risk experts to help Newcastle people try to preserve the Laman St trees.

I’m extremely grateful that such knowledgeable and respected experts as Mike Ellison have given us their time and advice.

I should not have been surprised that within the blink of an eye an internal memo critiquing Mr Ellison’s work appeared.

Cyber bits and pieces

As usual, I’m still obsessing about risk and the definition of tree failure. I couldn’t stand it any more so I sought (more) advice. I do like to able to argue intelligently with my cyber bullies.

Working Party meeting & Gloves off part 1 23.6.2011

Well, I’m almost speechless. Last night (22.6.11) was an emergency meeting of the Laman Street Working Party. Since it’s all about the vibe, I’ll just say that the vibe was mostly pretty irritating.

On my way to a meeting this afternoon I took a photo for a friend of these wonderful aerial roots at the western end of Laman Street – that’s the end of the street where the trees have so far escaped the beady eye of the QTRA assessor.
