Council has agreed to do the Pull Test 17.11.2010

Back from the brink again.

At tonight’s (last night’s) council meeting, it was decided to carry out the Pull Test on the Laman Street figs to test their integrity and to seek a report on the Land and Environment court case. this means the trees will be tested in a reproducible way to ensure they are safe or otherwise.

This is a great result. The injunction was to run out on Thursday at midnight so felling the trees could have started on Friday – in what I’m told is bat breeding season – (of course, the appeal could/would have delayed this).

The vote was close again: 7 to 5. The Lord Mayor voted for the motion with the ALP – Cr Nuatali Nelmes who proposed the motion, Cr Claydon, Cr Crakanthorp and Cr Jackson – as well as Cr Osborne (Greens) and Independent Cr Connell. Thanks to all of them.

On behalf of us all, I am so grateful to fellow campaigners, our arborists, our legal team, residents, petition signers, video-makers, email writers, activists who have given us advice and shown us the way and last but not least the media.

I feel blessed tonight.

People can put the chains and the hankies away this week. More soon. Home.

Great News! Well done Lord Mayor, I didn’t know he had it in him to be reasonable about this! I guess I was wrong!
