Tree Maintenance – not: Newcastle history

This post is just to show people a sad photo sent to me by a friend who worked to try to preserve trees in another part of Newcastle.

The site of a former infants school had beautiful native trees that had been paid for and planted by parents at the school years ago. They had held fund raisers to allow this to happen.

The trees and undergrowth were home to many native birds and animals. Some would come back to the same area year after year to breed.

The residents tried for years to save the land and among other people enlisted the aid of their ward councillor who is now our Lord Mayor. He voted against preserving the land as a park.

My friend would pick up her camera and run every time she heard a chainsaw. This is one of her shots.

The photo is worth a thousand words.                                                                              Home
